Two and a half carats is a size that usually arrives with a lot of metal around it. This one does the opposite — the shank splits, passes on either side of the stone, and leaves the oval almost entirely open from the front.

The ring

The 2.5ct oval sits vertically, running the length of the finger so its long axis does the flattering work ovals are bought for. Four claws hold it at the shoulders and base; the bypass shank curves behind and above, framing the stone without crowding it. At this weight the oval measures roughly 11 x 8mm face-up, so it covers a good part of the finger while the low bypass profile keeps it from sitting top-heavy.

The band

The band is cut to nest under the lower arm of the bypass. 0.70ct of round lab-grown diamonds in shared-prong pave follow the curve and taper out toward the shank, which keeps the eye moving along the same diagonal the setting creates instead of cutting across it.

About our lab-grown diamonds

Every stone we set is a lab-grown diamond — the same carbon crystal structure, hardness and optical behavior as a mined diamond, grown rather than extracted. Centre stones of 1 carat and above ship with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, colour and clarity. Melee and pave stones are matched to the same colour and clarity range but are not individually certified.

Common questions

How big does a 2.5 carat oval look on the hand?
Roughly 11 x 8mm face-up — it spans most of the width of an average finger and reads considerably larger than a 2.5ct round, because ovals carry more of their weight on the surface.

Does this oval show a bowtie?
Every oval has some bowtie — the dark band across the center. We select stones where it is faint and only visible at certain angles. If you want to see it before committing, ask us for video of the actual stone.

Is a north-south oval more secure than an east-west one?
Both are secure here, but the north-south orientation puts the pointed ends along the finger where they are less exposed to knocks from the side.

What ring sizes can this be made in?
US 3 to 10, including half sizes. Beyond that range, message us before ordering — the bypass shank can be resized but only within limits.
