Five millimeters wide and deeply domed — the widest, most substantial band here, and there is not a single stone on it. What it has instead is a curved mirror. A dome this deep bends the reflection of everything around it, so the ring throws a moving band of light as your hand turns.

The band

The inside of the band is rounded too, which matters more than the outside. A 5mm ring with a flat interior has two hard edges bearing on the finger and becomes unwearable by lunchtime; a comfort-curved interior bears on the center and feels narrower than it is. The outer dome is polished in one pass with no facet or flat anywhere on it — any interruption would show immediately at this width.

About the gold

Solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, or platinum, in the color you choose — never plated, never filled. Higher karats are richer in color and softer; 14K is the usual choice for a band worn every day, 18K for one that is worn a little more carefully. Every band is stamped with its karat on the inside.

Common questions

Will a wide polished band scratch quickly?
Yes. A 5mm mirror is the most scratch-visible surface in jewelry, and within a month it will have a soft satin cast from daily wear. Most people come to prefer it. If you want the mirror back it is a ten-minute polish at any bench, and the band is heavy enough to take that many times over.

Does it feel heavy?
It is the heaviest band in this collection and it feels like a ring, which is generally the point. In platinum it is noticeably heavier again. If you have never worn a wide band, order 14K first rather than platinum.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
Very nearly. This is a finished band made to a fixed specification, not a setting built around a stone you choose, so the ring in these photographs and the ring you receive are the same design at the same weight. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is this solid gold or plated?
Solid, all the way through, in the karat you select. Nothing here is plated or filled, and the inside of the band carries the karat stamp. A solid band can be polished and resized for as long as you own it, which is the whole argument for buying one rather than a plated ring.
