Flat face, square edges, straight sides, no dome and no chamfer. This is the most uncompromising shape a band can take, and the only thing it offers is the quality of its lines — two parallel edges that stay parallel the whole way round and a face that stays flat between them.

The band

Square edges are unforgiving because any variation in width shows as a wobble in the edge line. The blank is cut, trued and polished with the edges worked last so they finish crisp rather than rolled. Inside, the band is lightly comfort-curved — the outside keeps its hard geometry, the part against your finger does not. Stamped inside with its karat.

About the gold

Solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold, or platinum, in the color you choose — never plated, never filled. Higher karats are richer in color and softer; 14K is the usual choice for a band worn every day, 18K for one that is worn a little more carefully. Every band is stamped with its karat on the inside.

Common questions

How does this differ from the beveled band?
The beveled one cuts a chamfer along both edges, so it reads as three planes and looks slimmer. This one leaves the edges square, so it reads as one plane and looks its full width. Same idea, opposite answers.

Will square edges be uncomfortable?
On the outside you will feel the edges against the next finger for the first week, which is normal for any square-edged band. The inside is curved, so the part that matters is soft. If you have found flat bands uncomfortable before, the round wire band in this collection is the safer choice.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
Very nearly. This is a finished band made to a fixed specification, not a setting built around a stone you choose, so the ring in these photographs and the ring you receive are the same design at the same weight. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is this solid gold or plated?
Solid, all the way through, in the karat you select. Nothing here is plated or filled, and the inside of the band carries the karat stamp. A solid band can be polished and resized for as long as you own it, which is the whole argument for buying one rather than a plated ring.
