The band is not a band — it is two twisting strands broken into little milgrain-edged panels, each holding a diamond, alternating with plain gold links.

The setting

A round brilliant sits in claws over a small hidden gallery, on a shank built from marquise-shaped milgrain stations set with round accents, alternating with plain gold as the two strands cross. Accents come to roughly 0.30ct. The milgrain — the fine beaded edge on each station — is what dates the look to the 1920s, and it is applied by hand with a wheel after setting. It softens over years of wear, which is exactly what makes an antique-style ring look antique rather than new.

Common questions

What is milgrain?
A row of tiny beads cut into the edge of the metal with a knurling wheel. It catches light differently from a polished edge and is the single detail that most reads as vintage.

Will the milgrain wear away?
It softens gradually, over years. Most people prefer it that way. It can be re-cut by a jeweler if you ever want it sharp again.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.
