Four side stones, four different jobs. A trapeze sits immediately beside the radiant on each shoulder, its long edge matched to the flank of the center stone; beyond it a hexagon drops a step lower. Nothing here is a round brilliant, which is the whole point - step cuts beside a step-cut center give you long flat flashes instead of sparkle, and the ring reads as Deco rather than modern.

The setting

Each of the four accents has its own rub-over bezel, and the bezels themselves descend: the trapeze pair sits high and close, the hexagon pair sits lower and slightly apart, so the profile steps down from the center like a stepped facade. The accent stones total 0.80 carats. The center radiant is in a full bezel of its own with a straight-sided wall, and the shank runs out from the last hexagon as a plain flat band - no pave anywhere, so the geometry of the five stones stays completely readable.

Common questions

Why step cuts instead of brilliant-cut side stones?
Because they behave like the center stone. A radiant, an emerald and a trapeze all return light in broad flat flashes; a round brilliant scatters it. Mixing the two makes the sides look busy next to the middle. Keeping everything step-cut is what makes the five stones read as one object.

Can the accents be matched to a lower color than the center?
We do not recommend it on this design. The accents sit edge to edge with the center stone and any difference in body color shows immediately - on a ring with scattered pave you would get away with it. We match all four to the same color grade as the center.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
