A radiant is a rectangle with its four corners cut off, and setting it at an angle points two of those cropped corners along the band and the other two out toward its edges. The cut-off corners are what make it work: they give the outline eight sides instead of four, so the stone sits in the tilt without either corner looking like it is about to fall off the band.

The setting

Each tab folds over one of the cropped corner facets - a flat surface, angled, effectively made for the job. A radiant is brilliant-faceted underneath a step-cut outline, which means unlike the emerald cut in the same setting it fires rather than flashes, and the wide polished band multiplies that by bouncing light back into the pavilion from both sides. The band is flat-topped and heavy through the back, sized to carry a large stone without the shank looking outgunned.

Common questions

What is the difference between this and the emerald cut in the same setting?
The outline is nearly identical; the faceting underneath is not. An emerald cut is a step cut and gives long mirror flashes. A radiant is brilliant-cut below the girdle and gives scattered fire. If you want the Deco silhouette with modern sparkle, this is the one.

How large a stone will this mount take?
Up to about three carats as listed, and further on request - the band is wide enough that a big radiant looks proportioned rather than perched. Above three carats we would thicken the tabs slightly, which is a no-cost change we make at the bench.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.
