There is not a single prong on this ring. A 1.5 ct Portuguese-cut lab-grown diamond sits between two arms of metal that curl in from either side and grip it along two arcs of its edge.

The setting

The Portuguese cut carries many more facets than a standard round brilliant, which gives it a fine, crushed-ice sparkle. A half-bezel suits that because it leaves most of the girdle open to light while covering two stretches of the edge completely. The band is substantial and squared in profile, which it needs to be: a bypass that holds a stone between two arms relies on the metal's stiffness. The stone sits low, so it wears well under gloves and sleeves. It was photographed in white gold, and the clean profile leans modern.

Why is the Portuguese cut not in the diamond selector?
It is a specialty cut with far more facets than a standard round, and this setting is built around one sourced to fit it. The ring is sold with its 1.5 ct Portuguese-cut center, so the cut is not offered in the selector.

Is a half-bezel as secure as prongs?
Yes, in a different way. Two long arcs of metal hold the stone instead of several small points, and there is nothing to snag or bend. The open sides do leave part of the girdle exposed, so knocks straight onto the side of the stone are worth avoiding.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
