The bezel here is not a circle with a point stuck on it. It is cut as one continuous teardrop, tapering the whole way down to a sharp tip, so from above the ring reads as a single piece of gold with a diamond filling it. The shank rises to meet that tip in a shallow V, which means the band already does the job a chevron wedding band would normally do.

The setting

Because the bezel is closed all the way round, the point of the pear - the part that chips - is completely protected by metal, which is the practical argument for this setting on a stone worn every day. The wall is kept thin and its top edge is burnished flush with the table, so the gold outline stays fine rather than heavy. The V of the shank sits directly under the point, and the two arms then straighten out into a plain round band at the back of the finger.

Common questions

Does a full bezel make the diamond look smaller?
It covers the girdle, so a bezel-set stone shows slightly less spread than the same stone in claws - but it also gives the eye an unbroken outline, which usually reads as larger from a distance. On a pear the trade is worth it: the point is the vulnerable part of the cut and the bezel is what stops it catching.

Will the V shank take a matching band?
Yes. The V is shallow and even, so a standard chevron or curved band nests against it without a gap. Send us the ring size you are ordering and we will cut the matching band to the same angle.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.
