The setting

The oval is rub-over set lengthwise, ringed by a halo of small bead-set rounds with a milgrained outer edge, and at each of the four compass points a larger round of about 0.05ct sits in its own gold collar — which pulls the outline out into a soft navette rather than a plain oval. Around 0.45ct of accents in total. Under the head the gallery is cut into a fluted fan, visible only from the side, which is the kind of detail Edwardian rings were full of and modern ones almost never bother with.

Common questions

Does the halo make the center stone look bigger?
Considerably — a halo this tight reads as part of the stone from a short distance, so a 1ct oval looks closer to 1.75ct face-up.

What is the fluting under the setting for?
Nothing structural. It is there because the side of a ring is visible when you gesture, and a plain gallery wastes it.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.
