The band is thin at the back and thickens into two smooth heavy lobes that rise on either side of the stone, like something worn smooth by water.

The setting

An oval sits east-west in four claws between two swollen shoulders of polished gold. The shank grows from a narrow back into those lobes and then drops away again, so the profile from the side is a curve with no straight section anywhere. Nothing is set into the metal — the whole effect comes from the swelling, which has to be carved and polished by hand because a cast surface this large shows every flaw. On the finger it wears like a heavy organic band that happens to hold a diamond.

Common questions

Is it as heavy as it looks?
In platinum, yes — noticeably. In 14K yellow it is substantial but comfortable, which is the combination most people choose for this shape.

Does the thick metal hide the stone?
It sits below the girdle, so the full face of the oval is visible. What the lobes do is make the stone look wider by framing it.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.
