The setting

The band swells from a slim back into a broad domed face, and the oval is rub-over set east-west into it, the bezel wall flush with the surrounding metal. The dome is continuous: the gold rises, meets the stone and carries on, so the profile from the side is one unbroken curve. It is the toughest setting we make — there is no claw to catch, no edge to bend, and the stone sits below the highest point of the ring — and the one we recommend to anyone who never wants to think about their engagement ring again.

Common questions

Will it scratch like a plain signet?
The gold will pick up fine surface marks over years, which most people come to like. It polishes back to new in minutes if you would rather it did not.

Is an east-west oval unusual?
On a signet face, it is the only orientation that works — the stone follows the width of the band. Set lengthwise it would run off both ends.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
