Nine marquises laid end to end, and between each pair the claws cross into a small gold X. Those X's are the only metal you see from above, and they turn what would be a plain row of stones into a pattern.

The band

A crossed claw does two jobs at once: it caps the point of the stone on its left and the point of the stone on its right, from a single piece of metal. That halves the amount of gold in the run compared with claws set individually, which is how a band this fine — 1.6mm — carries nine marquises without looking overloaded. The X's also protect the points, which on a marquise is the whole game. 0.60 carats across nine.

Common questions

Is a 1.6mm shank too fine for nine stones?
It is at the delicate end and we would rather be straight with you: this is a band for someone who takes rings off before the gym and the garden. Worn normally it is fine. Worn hard it will go out of round before anything else fails.

Do the crossed claws wear faster?
They carry two stones each, so a worn claw matters more here than on a standard setting. Have them checked under a loupe every two years and retipped when they thin — a ten-minute job that will keep the ring together indefinitely.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
Very nearly. This is a finished band made to a fixed specification, not a setting built around a stone you choose, so the ring in these photographs and the ring you receive are the same design at the same weight. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Are the diamonds certified?
As a set, yes. Calibrated stones of this size are not individually certified — nobody grades a small calibrated stone on its own paper — so we supply a certificate covering the total carat weight and the matched color and clarity range for the whole band.
