One side of the band flares up into a broad wing that curls over the edge of the marquise; the other side simply falls away. Nothing is symmetrical.

The setting

The marquise lies lengthwise. On one flank the shank widens and lifts into a flared sheet of polished gold that folds over the upper edge of the stone and covers one point; on the other it drops straight to a fine band. The stone is held between that wing and a single claw opposite. It is a sculptural setting rather than a structural one — the wing does the gripping, which is only possible because it wraps a long section of the girdle rather than pinching at a point.

Is one wing and one claw secure?
Yes, because the wing holds along a long contact line rather than at a point, and it covers one of the marquise tips — the part that actually needs protecting.

Does it sit flat against a wedding band?
On the plain side, yes. The wing side sits proud, which is why most people wear this one alone or with a band on the other hand.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher.
