A 2 ct lozenge step cut, a long rhombus with flat, mirror-like facets, held at its four points by four claws on a wide, flat band. The ring is all straight lines and hard edges.

The setting

A lozenge has four corners and no curves, so the claws sit exactly on those corners, protecting the most exposed parts of the stone and leaving every edge visible. The open basket lets light into the step facets, which give broad flashes rather than scattered sparkle. The band is about 3 to 3.5mm at the top, slightly tapered and square-edged, heavy enough to balance a long stone and to match its geometry. There are no accents: the outline of the stone and the flat band carry the design. The lozenge is not offered in the diamond selector; it is an unusual cut, and this stone was chosen for this setting.

Common questions

Does a step-cut lozenge show inclusions more than a brilliant?
Step facets are long and open, so they give a clearer view into the stone than a brilliant cut, which hides small features under its sparkle. That is why step cuts are usually chosen at higher clarity.

How comfortable is a wide flat band?
A band of about 3mm or more at the top feels more present than a fine one and may call for a slightly larger size, especially in warm weather when fingers swell. The taper toward the back makes it easier to wear, and the square edges keep it from rolling.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
