A 1.5 ct elongated hexagon step cut, pointed at both ends and faceted in flat, mirror-like steps, held in an engraved mounting with open filigree scrolls at the shoulders. There are no side stones; the metalwork is the ornament.

The setting

Six claws hold the stone: V-tips cap the two points, and four side claws sit on the remaining corners of the hexagon, so every angle of the outline is secured. The V-tips matter because the points are the thinnest part of the stone and the most likely to chip. Beneath the head is an open scroll gallery, and the cathedral shoulders repeat the scrolls in filigree before settling into a band of about 2mm, engraved on top and sides with milgrain edges. Step facets give broad flashes rather than scattered sparkle, which suits a vintage-style mounting. Common questions

Why does a step cut look different from a brilliant?
Step cuts have long, parallel facets that act like mirrors, giving wide flashes of light and a clear view into the stone. They twinkle less than brilliant cuts and show inclusions more readily, which is why step-cut stones are usually chosen at higher clarity.

Do the V-tip claws need maintenance?
They take the most contact, since they sit at the extremes of the stone. Check them now and then for snagging on fabric; if one starts to catch, a jeweler can re-tip it before the point is exposed.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
