Baguettes run down each shoulder in a channel, each one shorter than the last, so the line of stones steps down from the center to the back of a wide flat band.

The setting

An emerald cut sits raised at the center of a broad flat band whose shoulders are channel-set with graduated baguettes — no beads, no claws on the accents, just two walls of gold holding the stones between them. Roughly 0.70ct of baguettes in total. Channel setting is the most protective way to set a step-cut accent, because nothing stands above the metal; it is also unforgiving, since every stone has to be cut to fit its exact position in the taper. Everything on this ring is a step cut, center and accents alike.

Common questions

Why channel-set rather than bead-set?
Channel setting suits baguettes: they have straight edges that sit flat against the channel walls, and nothing protrudes to snag. Bead setting is for round stones and looks wrong on a square-edged cut.

Is this a vintage design?
It borrows from the 1980s wide-band look rather than from any particular period piece. The proportions are ours.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The setting, yes — those are photographs of this setting made in our workshop. The diamond in them is one specific stone, so a different center stone will not look identical: a heavier one covers more of the finger and sits slightly higher. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.
