A very narrow 3 ct elongated marquise, held by just four claws, one at each point and one at each side of its waist, on a slim band set with small round diamonds at intervals. The effect is long, light and a little architectural.

The setting

A compass layout uses the fewest claws a marquise can have while still capping both points, which matters on a stone this slender because its tips are long and fine. The basket sits low, keeping the stone close to the finger. The band is about 1.5mm, photographed in rose gold, and carries about two or three stations per side: round diamonds of about 1.8mm gripped by pointed teardrop claws and separated by small beaded bars. The stations continue only partway around, adding light without turning the band into a full row. A marquise this narrow is not offered in the diamond selector, so the ring is sold with the stone chosen for it.

Common questions

Are four claws enough for a long, narrow marquise?
Yes, because they sit where they count: two on the points, the most fragile parts, and two at the waist, which stop the stone from rocking. Fewer claws also leave more of the outline visible, which is the reason to choose a shape this slim.

How delicate is the station band?
At about 1.5mm the band is fine, and the station claws stand slightly above it. It suits daily wear with ordinary care, but it should come off for lifting weights or heavy chores, and its claws are worth checking now and then.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
