A 4 ct Dutch marquise stands tall on a cathedral head, above a band set with small marquise diamonds laid end to end in milgrain frames, each separated by a tiny round. The pattern runs down both shoulders and most of the way around the finger.

The setting

Six claws, one on each point and two along each side, secure the center, and a hidden halo of small rounds circles the base of the head, visible only in profile. The band is about 2mm with milgrain edges and engraved sides, so even the unset surfaces carry detail. Alternating marquise and round accents give the band a rhythm that echoes the center's shape. A stone this size needs height to show its facets, and the tall cathedral provides it, at the cost of sitting higher than a low solitaire. The Dutch marquise, with extra end facets and a slightly angular outline, is not in the diamond selector; this one was sourced for this mounting.

Common questions

How high does a 4 ct stone sit on a cathedral head?
Noticeably higher than a low-set ring, because the cathedral lifts the stone to make room for the hidden halo and to let light in from the sides. It is comfortable for daily wear but can catch on gloves and loose knits, so take it off for gym work or gardening.

Can the stone-set band be resized?
It is more involved than on a plain band, because the accents run most of the way around. Small adjustments can be done in the unset section at the back; larger changes can mean resetting or adding accent stones, so confirm your size before the ring is made.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
