The contrast is the point: a 3 ct round lab-grown cyan blue diamond, large and saturated, on a band that is just two fine strands twisted together. White metal keeps the blue-green of the stone cool rather than warming it.

The setting

Six round-tipped claws hold the stone, one pair more than a four-claw head, which keeps a round this size secure and makes its outline look rounder. The head is tall and cathedral-style, with the claws sweeping down into the shank, and the gallery beneath is open so light enters from the sides. The shank is a two-strand rope twist of about 1.8–2.0 mm. The trade-off of a tall head is that it catches sleeves and gloves more easily than a low basket would.

The center stone is a lab-grown colored diamond — the same carbon crystal, hardness and optical behavior as a mined diamond, grown rather than extracted, with its color from trace elements or post-growth treatment as stated on its certificate. Accent stones are colorless lab-grown diamonds matched to one another for color and clarity.

Common questions

Why is a cyan round not available in the diamond selector?
The Ring Builder carries white centers. Colored lab-grown diamonds like this cyan blue are sourced individually to match a setting, so this ring is offered with its 3 ct stone already chosen for the tall six-claw head.

Can the rope-twist band be resized?
Yes, usually within a size or so. The jeweler has to match the twist where the band is cut and joined, so larger changes can mean replacing a section of the rope. Tell us your size when ordering and we make it to size rather than resizing afterward.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Where does the color come from?
Lab-grown colored diamonds take their color either from trace elements during growth or from a treatment after growth, and the certificate states which. Either way the color is stable in normal wear and cleaning; avoid holding the ring in a jeweler's torch flame during any repair, which is the one thing that can alter treated color.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
