A 2.5 carat lab-grown cyan blue diamond in a Portuguese cut, a round with extra tiers of facets, so the teal breaks into many small flashes instead of a few big ones. Six claws shaped as leaves ring the stone, and the head looks like a small crown growing out of the vine.

The setting

A round outline suits six claws, which spread the grip evenly, and the tulip gallery lifts the stone enough for light to enter from the sides. The shank twists as a vine engraved with leaves, about 1.8 millimeters at the back. White marquises sit along it as leaves with small rounds between them, kept low so the center leads. Neither this cut nor this color is in the diamond selector; the stone was sourced to match the leaf-claw head, and it comes with the ring.

Common questions

Does the Portuguese cut change how the color looks?
The extra facets break light into smaller pieces, so the teal looks livelier and less like a flat block of color. Under warm light it can lean greener; in daylight it reads more blue.

Will the leaf claws snag?
They are shaped and polished to sit close to the stone, but textured claws are a little more likely to catch loose threads than smooth ones. Have them checked yearly, especially on a stone of this size.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Where does the color come from?
Lab-grown colored diamonds take their color either from trace elements during growth or from a treatment after growth, and the certificate states which. Either way the color is stable in normal wear and cleaning; avoid holding the ring in a jeweler's torch flame during any repair, which is the one thing that can alter treated color.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
