A 3.5 ct pear lab-grown cyan blue diamond, aqua to teal depending on the light, flanked by two fans of white marquises that spread out like leaves. The wings widen the ring across the finger, which balances a pear this long.

The setting

The pear takes only three claws, a V-claw over the point and two round claws at the base, keeping as much of the colored stone in view as possible. On each side, three marquises form a fan: the middle one, about 5 x 3 mm, lies horizontally, and two smaller ones, about 4 x 2 mm, angle up and down from it. The band is plain, about 2.0 mm, with a smooth rounded profile so it does not compete with the top. The result is a ring that is wide at the head and quiet everywhere else.

Common questions

Why is this pear not in the diamond selector?
Colored lab-grown diamonds are sourced individually, and this large cyan blue pear was chosen to sit between the two marquise fans. The Ring Builder works with white centers, so this ring is listed with its 3.5 ct pear already set.

Are the marquise tips at the edges vulnerable?
The outer tips of each fan point toward the sides of the ring, where knocks happen. Each marquise is held by its own claws, but it is sensible to remove the ring for heavy work and to have the claws on the fans checked once a year.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Where does the color come from?
Lab-grown colored diamonds take their color either from trace elements during growth or from a treatment after growth, and the certificate states which. Either way the color is stable in normal wear and cleaning; avoid holding the ring in a jeweler's torch flame during any repair, which is the one thing that can alter treated color.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
