A 2 ct lab-grown blue diamond, oval and set north-south, held by claws carved as small engraved leaves that fold over its edge. Below it, the band is engraved all the way around with flowers and vines, with tiny white diamonds dropped into the pattern.

The setting

The leaf claws, about six to eight of them, do the work of ordinary claws but are broader at the top, so each covers a little more of the girdle and reads as ornament rather than hardware. In profile the head rises like a tulip, lifting the blue stone clear of the band so light reaches it from the sides. The band is about 1.8 to 2mm with a flat top and square edges, giving the engraver a surface to cut into, and about three or four white rounds sit in the scrollwork on each side. White accents beside a blue center keep the color from looking heavy. Blue diamonds do shift with light, reading brighter in daylight and deeper under warm lamps.

Will the engraving wear down over time?
Hand engraving softens slowly with daily wear, most of all on the palm side of the band that meets desks and door handles. An engraver can recut the pattern when it starts to look shallow, and the small diamonds in the scrollwork are checked at the same time.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
The design, the cut and the carat weight, yes. Individual stones vary slightly, and colored stones in particular read differently under daylight and warm indoor light. We photograph your finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Where does the color come from?
Lab-grown colored diamonds take their color either from trace elements during growth or from a treatment after growth, and the certificate states which. Either way the color is stable in normal wear and cleaning; avoid holding the ring in a jeweler's torch flame during any repair, which is the one thing that can alter treated color.

Is the center stone certified?
Yes. Every center stone of 1 carat and above ships with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Accent and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.
