Five asscher cuts — square step cuts with clipped corners — set in a row with claws gripping the corners. Step cuts do not twinkle. They flash in long straight lines that appear and vanish as the hand moves, and five in a row do it in sequence.

The band

An asscher is a square emerald cut with deeper steps and a higher crown, so it has more depth to it than a plain step cut and throws a distinctive X of light from the center when you look straight down. Claws on the clipped corners are the correct way to hold one: the corner is already a flat facet, so a claw sits on it squarely rather than pinching an edge. Five stones, 1.50 carats, in a run with visible gold between each pair.

Every stone in this band is a lab-grown diamond — the same carbon crystal structure, hardness and optical behavior as a mined diamond, grown rather than extracted. Common questions

What is the difference between an asscher and a princess cut?
Both are square. A princess is a brilliant cut with sharp corners and lots of small facets, so it sparkles. An asscher is a step cut with clipped corners and long parallel facets, so it flashes. Completely different look from the same outline.

Are asscher corners fragile?
The clipped corners are what makes an asscher durable — a sharp-cornered square cut is the one at risk. On this ring every corner also has a claw over it, which is belt and braces.

Do the photographs show the exact ring I will receive?
Very nearly. This is a finished band made to a fixed specification, not a setting built around a stone you choose, so the ring in these photographs and the ring you receive are the same design at the same weight. We photograph every finished ring and send you those images before it ships.

Are the diamonds certified?
As a set, yes. Calibrated stones of this size are not individually certified — nobody grades a small calibrated stone on its own paper — so we supply a certificate covering the total carat weight and the matched color and clarity range for the whole band.
