Two and a half carats laid sideways on a band of solid, rounded gold. There is no head, no gallery, no lift — the shank thickens, curves past the stone, and cradles it from below like a hand closing around it.

The design

The 2.5ct pear lies east-west across the finger, roughly 12 x 8mm, point toward the edge of the hand. Four claws hold it while the shank swells to its heaviest directly under the girdle and tapers away toward the back. That mass is the whole point: it gives a very large stone a base substantial enough to carry it, and it drops the center of gravity so the ring does not spin. The interior is comfort-fit; the exterior is a continuous high polish with no join visible from the front.

A one-off, built around this 2.5ct pear. At this weight each stone differs enough in outline and length-to-width that the setting has to be cut to it — which is why this ring exists once and not as a size run.

Common questions

Is a 2.5ct stone comfortable for daily wear?
This one is, more than most. The east-west orientation keeps it from standing tall, and the heavy shank stops the ring rotating on the finger — the usual complaint with large stones on thin bands.

Why set a pear sideways?
It widens the stone's footprint across the finger and gives a softer, more sculptural silhouette than the classic point-up teardrop. It also tucks the point in toward the setting, where it is less exposed.

How much does the ring weigh?
Noticeably more than a standard solitaire — the shank is solid rather than hollow-backed. Exact weight depends on karat and finger size; ask us and we will give you the figure for your order.

Can this be resized?
Within about two sizes. The shank is heavy, so resizing takes longer than on a thin band. Give us your size at checkout and we will make it correctly the first time.
