Two and a half carats of pear, point up, held by two flat gold collars — one over the tip, one under the base — and nothing on the sides at all. From the front the stone appears to float between two bands of metal.

The design

The 2.5ct pear stands lengthwise, roughly 12 x 8mm. A flat polished collar caps the point; a second, heavier one cradles the rounded base. Between them both curved edges are entirely open. The shank wraps behind, thickening under the base collar to carry the weight and thinning as it passes the tip. At this carat the design has to be structural, and it is — the base collar is the load-bearing element, and the tip collar is what protects the most fragile millimeter of the stone.

Center stones of 1 carat and above ship with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Common questions

Is the pear tip protected?
Fully — the collar folds over it, covering the point from front, back and above. This is better protection than a V-claw, which leaves the face of the tip exposed.

Does the collar hide much of the diamond?
A few millimeters at each end. The long sides are completely open, which is where most of a pear's surface area is, so the stone still reads at full size.

Is it comfortable to wear?
Yes. Flat collars sit low and have no protruding tips. It is a large ring, but nothing about it catches.

Can it be resized?
Within about two sizes. The wrap is heavy, so tell us your size at checkout where possible.
