An oval turned sideways stops being a solitaire and becomes a shape. At 2.5 carats, lying across the finger in a band of heavy rounded gold, this one reads closer to a signet than to an engagement ring — until it catches light.

The design

The 2.5ct oval sits east-west, around 11 x 8mm, held by four claws at the ends of the long axis. The shank thickens under the stone into a rounded saddle and sweeps past on both sides, so from the side you see one continuous gold curve with a diamond set into its crest. Turning the oval sideways also does something for the stone itself: the bowtie — the dark band every oval carries across its short axis — falls where the eye is least likely to rest.

Why this ring exists once

Made once, around this stone. Ovals vary more than any other shape in length-to-width ratio, and the wrap on this ring was cut to this particular outline; it would not sit correctly on a different 2.5ct oval.

Common questions

What is a bowtie and does this stone have one?
Every oval has some — a dark bowtie-shaped shadow across the middle. This stone was chosen for a faint one, and the east-west orientation makes it less noticeable. Ask for video before you buy if it matters to you.

How does a 2.5ct oval compare to a 2.5ct round?
It looks bigger. An oval spreads its weight over a longer surface, so face-up it covers far more finger than a round of the same carat weight.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
A straight band will sit against the shank on either side, but not tight to the setting. Most people wear this one alone, or with a band on the other hand.

Is this the same design as CDT002?
Same setting family, different stone: CDT002 is a 2.5ct pear, this is a 2.5ct oval. Each wrap is cut to its own stone.

What metals is it available in?
10K, 14K and 18K in yellow, white or rose gold. At this weight of metal, 14K is the usual choice for hardness.
