A moval is an oval with marquise ends — softer than a marquise, sharper than an oval, and rare enough that most people cannot name it when they see it. At 2.5 carats on a pave V-shank, this one is the showpiece of the collection.

The design

The 2.5ct moval runs lengthwise, roughly 13 x 8mm, held in four double claws. The shank angles down into a V and carries 0.15ct of small round lab-grown diamonds bead-set along both upper arms, stopping before the apex so the point of the V stays clean gold. The hybrid outline is the reason for the V-shank: a moval's gently pointed ends want a setting that echoes them, and a straight shank would fight the shape.

Why this ring exists once

One piece. Movals are cut individually rather than to a standard ratio, so each one needs its own setting — there is no second ring behind this.

Every stone we set is a lab-grown diamond — the same carbon crystal structure, hardness and optical behavior as a mined diamond, grown rather than extracted. Center stones of 1 carat and above ship with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Melee and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.

What is a moval?
A hybrid between a marquise and an oval — the body of an oval with subtly pointed ends. It is an uncommon cut, which is most of its appeal.

How much pave is on the shank?
0.15ct of small round lab-grown diamonds, set along both upper arms of the V and stopping before the point.

Why does the pave stop before the apex?
Because running stones into the point blurs it. Leaving the last few millimeters in polished gold keeps the V sharp, which is the shape the ring is built on.

Is a moval hard to find a band for?
A chevron or V band nests into the shank. A straight band leaves a gap at the point.
