Turned forty-five degrees and held by two flat bars of gold at opposite corners, this Asscher stops looking like a step-cut square and starts looking like a kite suspended between two lines. It is the most architectural ring we make.

The design

The 1.5ct Asscher, roughly 6.3mm square, is set on the diagonal. Two flat polished collars fold over opposite corners and hold the stone; the other two corners are completely free, with nothing in front of them. The shank curves past above and below, so the collars appear to be the ends of a single ribbon that has been bent around the diamond. Because an Asscher's step facets run to the corners, exposing two of them is not just a visual decision — it lets light in at the exact points where the cut sends it back out.

About our lab-grown diamonds

Every stone we set is a lab-grown diamond — the same carbon crystal structure, hardness and optical behavior as a mined diamond, grown rather than extracted. Center stones of 1 carat and above ship with an IGI certificate stating carat, cut, color and clarity. Melee and pave stones are matched to the same color and clarity range but are not individually certified.

Common questions

Is a collar setting as secure as claws?
Yes, for a step cut. The collars grip across the corner rather than at a single point, which spreads the load. Asschers have thick corners by design, so they take this setting well.

What is a kite set?
A square or rectangular stone rotated 45 degrees so a corner points toward the knuckle. It changes the whole silhouette of the ring and makes a square cut read as a diamond shape.

Do Asschers show inclusions more than brilliant cuts?
Yes. Step cuts have large open facets with no sparkle to hide behind, so clarity matters more here than on a round or oval. Ask for the certificate detail before buying.

Will a band sit flush?
A straight band sits against the shank on both sides. It will not meet the collars, which sit proud — that gap is part of the look.
